 Project Background

 Originally “Capacity, Response and Respect (CRR) Initiative”, was given the Arabic name “Takatuf” which is funded by U.S. Department of State Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor (DRL).This project focuses on four Iraqi governorates; Kirkuk, Najaf, Karbala and Babylon which were recently effected by the situation in the country. The goal of the this program is to mitigate conflict between host communities and returnees, refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs) by improving the capacity of local authorities and civil society organizations to prevent and manage conflict within host communities and address the factors that lead to violence before they escalate, building support for unity and cross-sectarian tolerance; improving local authority response; and increasing awareness of and respect for equal human rights, with a particular focus on the concerns of women and girls.

SOC Role

SOC will adopt a multi-dimensional and comprehensive approach that aims to support CSOs and develop their capacities in a sustainable manner. Empowering the Iraqi CSOs to promote conflict mitigation mechanisms will contribute effectively to monitoring the Government of Iraq’s compliance with due process and transparency, and enhance CSOs capacities for conflict transformation and mitigation.

In achieving this support, SOC will induce the transfer of knowledge, develop the skills and competencies of CSOs, put in place the needed systems, process and procedures, and create an enabling environment.
